This guide walks you through how to properly prepare your files for flawless printing.
Leading Edge Technology
Our state-of-the-art printing equipment ensures that even the smallest print run maintains high-quality results. You don’t need to order more than you require — we make it affordable to print exactly what you need while also supporting sustainable practices.
Step 1 : Resolution
Your artwork should be at least 300 DPI (dots per inch) at final print size. For example, if your flyer is 4″x6″, your image must be 300 DPI at that exact dimension. Some software defaults to 72 DPI, so please verify and adjust before uploading.
Step 2: Size
Your file size must match the final trim size. For a 4″x6″ flyer, your design must be exactly 4 inches by 6 inches.
Step 3: Bleed & Safe Area
Include at least 1/8 inch bleed on all sides for images or backgrounds extending to the edge. Keep all essential text and elements at least 1/4 inch away from the edges to prevent accidental trimming.
Step 4: File Naming
Use clear and unique file names (avoid “front.jpg” or “back.pdf”). A good format might be: Printfather_SummerSale_Front_2025-06-01.pdf. This avoids confusion and ensures you’re uploading the correct version.
Step 5: Color Settings
Design in RGB if preferred, but always soft proof in CMYK to preview color shifts, as we print using CMYK ink systems. Colors may appear slightly different in print compared to on-screen.
Step 6: Black Color Tips
Avoid overly rich black tones in RGB. For clean black printing, use the following:
RGB: R:10, G:4, B:2
CMYK: C:60, M:40, Y:40, K:100
RGB: R:10, G:4, B:2
CMYK: C:60, M:40, Y:40, K:100
Step 7: Accepted File Types
JPEG, JPG, TIFF, PDF – Preferred formats for best speed and accuracy
Photoshop (.psd): Flatten layers
Illustrator (.ai / .eps): Convert fonts to outlines, embed images
InDesign (.indd): Convert fonts to outlines, export as PDF
Microsoft Word / Publisher: Save as PDF before upload
Other Software: Export as EPS, AI, PDF, JPEG, or TIFF at 300 DPI
Step 8: Final Proofing
Proof every detail of your file before uploading. This includes spelling, layout, images, and formatting. Once submitted, your file goes directly to press and changes are not guaranteed. The Printfather is not responsible for errors in submitted files.
